Waynetown—Rollie Mayes, 67, 115 E. Washington St., Waynetown, died at 12:10 a.m. Wednesday, May 17, 1989 in his home.
  He was born March 29, 1922 at Cleaton, Ky., the son of John and Hattie Criswell Mayes. He was married July 20, 1945 to Margie Rager, who survives.

  He retired from farming in the Wallace community in 1973. He had been employed as a machinery painter at Meharry Farm Service at Wingate until 1981, then worked part time until two years ago. He served in the European Theater during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart with four bronze stars. He was educated at Cleaton.

  Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Edgar, Veedersburg, and David, Waynetown; three daughters, Helen Marie Mayes, San Jose, Calif.; Carolyn Allen, Boswell, and Patricia Cochnower, Lafayette; two brothers, Bobby, Columbus, Ga., and Owen, Frankfort, Ky.; three sisters, Nevelyn Weasner, Indianapolis; Ruby Phelps, Alexandria, Ind., and Bessie Smith, Cleaton; 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

  Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today in Thomas Funeral Home, Waynetown, with the Rev. Duane Bryant officiating. Burial will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. – thanks to S
